- The Lab by Alchemy Coffee has only been open for about a year. The founder of Alchemy moved to Richmond from Portland and felt at home except for one thing. - Sofia, a freshman at VCU, loves how close Alchemy is to campus. It is just across the street from the VCU bookstore and conveniently in walking distance from her classes. Alchemy also has a coffee cart that they take to the more distant part of campus. “It’s much better quality than the Starbucks on campus and sometimes even cheaper!
